Kishu Associates is one of the leading research and capacity building consulting firm working on climate change and development in Uganda. KISHU’s aim is to develop a world-class institution that is closely related to local experience, knowledge and research in one of the countries that is most affected by climate change.
It is our mission to gain and distribute knowledge on climate change and, specifically, mitigation, adaptation and thereby helping people to adapt to climate change with a focus on the African continent. By focusing on such work in Uganda, KISHU allows local and international participants to gain direct knowledge of the issues in a real-world context. Through the expertise of Kishu Associates and its local partners, international organisations will be exposed to relevant and grounded knowledge that can be shared and transmitted around the world for the benefit of other LDCs, and their governments, donors and local international NGOs.
Target Goals
Our Strategic Focus
Policy influence
We engage in the formulation of national Climate Change and environmental governance policy and programs; engaging in policy processes on domestication of international environment agreements; contributing to governmental input to regional and global policy on CC and environmental matters; and facilitating CSO participation in regional & global policy dialogue.
Public Engagement and Mobilisation
We recognize the increased demand by LDCs citizens on their governments and inter-governmental bodies to take action on climate change and environmental issues and to implement international sustainable development agreements.
Holding Governments Accountable
We ensure that governments and inter-governmental bodies are efficiently implementing sovereign commitments to human rights in the context of environmental and climate governance. Government accountability will be achieved through: compliance scorecards; monitoring achievement of environmental and climate governance; and training CSOs on compliance monitoring.
Research, Knowledge Development and Communication
Research and knowledge Through building dynamic research functionality for targeted research that supports KISHU’s advocacy agenda; enhanced monitoring of outcomes of KISHU’s interventions; and invigorated communication mechanisms and approaches to ensure the energies, expertise and outreach of its membership confirm the adage, ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’.
Institutional and Governance Strengthening
A cohesive, member-responsive, and effective civil society platform capable of responding to a dynamic socio-political and ecological environment.
