Food Security and Agriculture

Livelihoods in Africa have been immensely affected by extreme poverty with many living on less than $1.25 (80p) a day (UNDP report). Many households in Africa lack basic needs like adequate food, access to clean drinking water and a means of sustainability.

Agriculture, the backbone of many African economies is equally lacking, with farmers facing challenges such as: lack of access to finance; minimal access to markets; poor transportation for produce; unpredictable change in weather conditions; lack of appropriate processing technology; poor farming practices; among others.
The United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 1 and 8 aim at: No Poverty; and Decent Work and Economic Growth, respectively.

In alignment to that, KISHU Associates works with development partners, civil society and private organizations, to relentlessly strengthen the livelihoods sector. KISHU Associates helps mitigate the sector challenges through: developing innovative practical business plans for agricultural enterprises; linking farmers and agribusiness players to access financing; encouraging entrepreneurship and job creation through formation of entrepreneurship clubs in schools and tertiary institutions; training refugees and low income earners in business skills to grow their income for better livelihoods and increased employment opportunities; evaluating the impact of projects serving vulnerable smallholder farmers that have been empowered to eradicate poverty and malnutrition for themselves and others.
