Education

Education is a human right and a key enabler for sustainable development of any community. It is a foundation for employment and hence a contributor to the well-being of people. However, various sources, including a 2017 UNESCO report, indicate that sub-Saharan Africa still faces many challenges at primary, secondary, tertiary, technical and vocational education levels. Many children are still out of school [i.e. more than 20% of children between 6 and 11, more than 33% of children between 12 and 14 years, and 60% of youth between 15 and 17]. For those in school, learning is not happening optimally due to: lack of classrooms; exclusion of children with disabilities or girls during their monthly periods; lack of or inadequately trained teachers; poor nutrition; inadequate access to teaching and learning materials; among others.

Aligned to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal: [Quality Education], KISHU Associates works with development partners, along with the public, civil society and private organizations, to provide support to the education sector. KISHU Associates helps curb the education challenges through: assessment and capacity building of organizations dealing with exclusion of girls and children with disabilities; managing funds from development partners to pay school fees and purchase scholastic materials; managing projects to construct physical infrastructure for schools; measuring the results of various programs like those that promote early child education and some that introduce entrepreneurship in schools; enabling formulation of strategies of organisations that seek to introduce ICT use for better learning in schools; among others.
