The economies of African countries largely depend on sectors such as forestry, agriculture, fisheries and tourism that are particularly vulnerable to environmental changes (UNEP report). Climate change is resulting into increase in droughts, floods, landslides and other extreme weather events. In turn, this is adding to stress on water resources, food security, health, infrastructure and thus overall development in Africa.
Energy is a dominant contributor to climate change, with 20% of people still lacking access to modern electricity and over 3 billion relying on wood and charcoal for cooking- UNDP report.
In tandem with United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 7 and 13: [Affordable and Clean Energy; and Climate Action, respectively],
KISHU Associates works with development partners, public, civil society and private organizations, to address leadership and management challenges. This is done through: monitoring and evaluating projects involved in rural electrification; procurement support to entities that supply clean and affordable energy, like solar panels; training entrepreneurs that deal in eco-friendly energy sources like briquettes and bio gas from animal waste; rethinking strategy and delivery models for NGOs to carry out awareness in rural areas on how to address climate change; carrying out capacity building trainings for organisations spearheading planting of trees to establish resilience to landslides and climatic changes, etc.
